How the calculation works
Your monthly balance is income minus fixed and variable expenses. Runway without income shows how many months your balance would cover expenses alone if income stopped entirely — after a job loss or illness, for example.
When expenses exceed income, the balance shrinks every month. From that pace the calculator estimates the date the money would run out, counting a month as an average of 30.4 days.
Personal finance guides commonly cite 3–6 months of expenses as an emergency fund. The calculator only shows where you stand against that range — what reserve makes sense for you depends on income stability, family and obligations.
This is an estimate based only on the numbers entered. It doesn’t account for inflation, interest, taxes or irregular expenses, and it is not financial advice or a recommendation.
